Walk the Plank & Manchester City Council Placement Opportunity Junior Digital Artist Placement (Paid) Placement Period:   8 days from May to 19th June 2016 (incl. event day on Sunday 19 June) Location:                 WOW Workshop, Old Granada Studio, Manchester M3 3GS Outline:                   To work on digital animation and video editing for Manchester Day 2016 Background Manchester Day is an annual outdoor arts event now in its 7th year celebrating everything marvellously Mancunian. It is a day for families, residents and visitors to get together and celebrate the creativity and diversity of Manchester. Over 2,500 performers and artists from local communities bring Manchester city centre to life in a fantastic display of colour, sound and movement. An audience of more than 70,000 are wowed by the incredible day of amazing structures, vibrant costumes, music and dance. The event centres around a large scale parade and a creative programme in four city centre squares. This year’s theme is Eureka! celebrating Manchester’s status as 2016 European City of Science, our history of scientific discovery and moments of wonder in everyday life. What is ELEVATE? We are delighted to announce that Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank, supported by Arts Council England, are offering six practical, experience-based, training placement to junior artists during the production period. This opportunity is being delivered by the ELEVATE’16 Training Through Production scheme. ELEVATE is an artist and community training programme within Manchester’s largest city-wide celebration, Manchester Day. It aims to support regional artists and community participants to create world-class art in the public realm through in-depth training from inter/national experts through the process of co-creating large-scale parade and static artworks. Want to be part of making creative content for a major outdoor event? This is an opportunity to work alongside some of the UK’s leading outdoor arts specialists, and is aimed at supporting those who are pursuing careers in carnival, 3D making and costume. Manchester Day is a unique experience, bringing together outdoor artists from across the region to work from one location (the WOW workshop) between May and June each year. This opportunity will give you a unique insight into working on a large-scale outdoor arts event. You will gain mentoring from practicing artists, learn new skills and techniques across a variety of materials, learn to produce on a fast paced mass-scale production line, gain confidence working with unskilled community participants, and build your profile, portfolio and network. Once again we are delighted to announce that Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank, supported by Arts Council England, are offering a practical, experience-based, training placement to a junior digital artist during the production of Manchester Day 2016. This opportunity is being delivered through the ELEVATE training through production scheme. As part of ELEVATE, we have created a paid placement opportunity for an junior animation artist to work with Manchester City Council’s communications department for over ten days, with the option to either undertake it in one block, or spread it over three to four weeks. The placement will take place in the run up to Manchester Day in late May to mid June 2016. The Placement Project in Detail Working alongside the design studio, marketing and events teams at Manchester City Council. You will work with one of UK’s fastest growing OOH media businesses and the leading provider of outdoor advertising opportunities in Manchester. Gaining valuable experience of working with a market leader in design, installation and management of digital out-of-home (DOOH) networks and broadcast applications. Supported by our creative design team M-Four, you will get the message out about Manchester Day to support audience engagement for the event. Your work will be screened across Manchester in the run up to Manchester Day on the CityLive screens network – a pioneering city centre touchscreen network delivering the world's most technologically advanced Out of Home (OOH) media platform.   Have You Got What We Are Looking For? The opportunity will suit either a digital animation or video editing artist.  Who is either an under, post or recent graduate or an individual with significant experience. Applicants must be available to work with the Manchester City Council team for a period of ten days in late May to mid June 2016. We are looking for someone who has: Adobe After Effects: working knowledge and experience. Experience working within Mac environment. Experience of animation and motion graphics. Experience of editing video elements. The ability to take art direction. A confident and creative thinker who's willing to add to the conversation. Photographic / film-making experience. Organised, punctual, good at fitting into a team and ready for a creative challenge. Access Walk the Plank and Manchester City Council are equal opportunity employers.
