This UPDATE has been emailed to the yes RSVPs. I hope to see you there! — Let's go whitewater rafting! I've made special arrangements for us to go whitewater rafting through 3 states (West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia), just a little over an hour away from the DC area. We'll go down the final stretches of the Shenandoah River as it tumbles into the Potomac, carving a spectacular 6.5-mile watercourse through the Blue Ridge Mountains with a duration of 2 – 4.5 hours (average 4 hours) depending on water levels. At 1:15pm, we'll check people in, fill out waivers, and receive our whitewater rafting orientation. Then we'll be on our way at 2pm. Please be ON TIME, and please account for traffic delays! Our trip is made up of some mellow water, permitting splashing and floating, multiple riffles and ledges, and challenging rapids such as "Bull Falls" and "White Horse." Class I – III rapids. Experienced guides will lead our trip, showing us the best route through the rapids while entertaining us with tales from the river. As we float by Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, we’ll learn of important events that occurred in the area and led up to the Civil War. During periods of low water the trip is exclusively on the Potomac river, coursing through a majestic water gap — with a view Thomas Jefferson wrote was worth a voyage across the Atlantic. Midway through our adventure, a late lunch *is* provided for us. We'll have a fried chicken picnic (veggie wrap can be substituted upon request… please message me through my Meetup profile) with potato salad, watermelon, and a drink, right on the river as we take some time to soak up some sun! We've got an early bird special for this event of ! The first 60 paid sign-ups, or those who pay by Sun. June 5th (whichever comes first) get the early bird price! After that, the ticket price will go to . We have a LIMITED number of spots so make sure to RSVP early AND make payment to secure your spot and get the early bird price! To make payment, please follow the steps in the "Payment Instructions" section of the event posting. Also please know that your RSVP is not guaranteed unless we receive payment. When you pay, your online receipt is confirmation that we have received your payment. Come join us, tell a friend, and let's have a fun, exciting day whitewater rafting together! – J.T. — Carpooling If you need a ride, I suggest posting in the comment box below. Likewise, if you can offer a ride, please also post in the comment box with number of people you can accommodate. Event Check-in If you are late (arrive after the start time of 1:15pm), you risk the possibility of not being able to join us for the event. We will have a master list of all those that have paid. It’s not required, but I recommend printing out your payment confirmation as a backup. When you check-in, your RSVP will be listed under the name of the Paypal or credit card account used to make payment. Typically, this is your LEGAL name as shown on your driver's license. Sometimes, it may be under a company name if you set up your Paypal or credit card account that way. If you are not sure what it is, please take a moment to log into your Paypal account (it will say "Welcome, [your account name]" at the top) or your credit card account to find out. If you are RSVP'd under someone else's payment, please use that name for check-in. Refund Policy Since we pay in advance for this event, all sales are final unless the event is canceled or rescheduled. If the event is canceled or rescheduled, an UPDATE will be posted at the top of the event posting, and the UPDATE will also be sent as an email to the yes RSVPs. A full refund will be submitted no later than Wednesday of the following week. For rescheduled events, you must let us know within 3 calendar days of the UPDATE email if you are unable to make the new date… no refunds will be given after that time. Thanks for understanding. =) Ticket Resell Similar to a concert ticket or a football game ticket, you are free to sell your ticket to someone else if you are unable to attend. Work out payment between yourselves, and have the seller only send the organizer a "message" letting me know the first AND last name and Meetup profile URL (if a member) of the person taking your spot. I host a lot of events and groups, so please also let me know the event name and group name the ticket transfer is for. You must let me know by the RSVP close time of 9:45am on the day of the event. Special Needs If you have any special needs (e.g. wheelchair, dietary for events with food included, etc.), let us know in advance (a week or more before the event) and we will do our best to accommodate.
